We are so excited to share that we’ve added a new member to the Burchhardt family, our little Rosie girl! She is so sweet and loving, and already such a loved part of our pack.

The breeder we worked with in North Carolina, Camelot House, does a really thorough matching process with their pups and families. We filled out a lengthy application and have been talking with the owner for months, getting to know her, and her getting a feel for us and the home she’d send one of her little pups to.

Ever since the puppies were born in November, Chris and I have been constantly checking the breeder’s Facebook page to see her posts and photos of the puppies. We didn’t want to get our hopes up because we didn’t yet know if we would definitely be matched with a dog. But it was certainly hard! We were smitten. The breeder uses colored collars to distinguish between the pups, and refers to them by their collars since they aren’t named yet. There was one puppy in particular we kept being drawn to, Miss Yellow. We couldn’t put our finger on it but we just loved her. Every time she was referenced in one of the breeder’s posts, or in a picture, our eyes lit up. We knew better than to get attached, but we just had this hunch that Miss Yellow was ours.

The moment the breeder emailed us to say that we had been matched with Miss Yellow, it all clicked. We just knew she was meant to join our family.

The description of why the breeder felt this particular pup was a good fit for our family, started my tears. This is what she wrote “During the evaluation on Saturday when I saw Miss Yellow’s interaction with the evaluators, I immediately thought of you two. She’s a joyful pup. That’s the way the evaluators described her. I believe the fit will be perfect.”

Those words, “she’s a joyful pup” made me melt. Joy is an emotion I strongly value, and one that Chris and I love to fill our home with. To think, we get the joyful puppy. Us! I was so honored to think we were chosen for such a loving puppy.

We received a note from the trainer the breeder works with, with her official evaluation that contributed to the matches: “Yellow girl is charismatic, charming, and spunky. Off the bat she has positive energy radiating from her. She lights up the room and makes everyone smile.”

Our first week with this little girl has been full of play, cuddles and adjusting to this new routine. We have been through an embarrassing amount of paper towels cleaning up accidents, are sleepy from all the middle of the night trips to take her out (all credit to Chris there!) and yet already feel so connected to her. I think she knows we’re hers too.

Enjoy these pics of our sweet little girl, Rosie!
