Katherine Burchhardt

We just got back from spending Thanksgiving in Atlanta with family, and I am feeling so full of love. It is truly magical having aunts, uncles and cousins so close by, and being able to spend time together in person as family. I say this every month, but we are so grateful for this move to Charleston and how aligned to our values this has been. Family and community are so important to us, and we are overflowing with how connected we feel here already.

A quick look into our family’s Thanksgiving traditions – “friendly” competition is the name of our game. We load up the cousins in the bed of my uncle’s retro pick up truck to drive the mile down the road to a field, and play our annual family football game. We all pack a change of clothes and sneakers to Thanksgiving to prep for this. My Uncle Jim smartly divides the teams. He told me this year that he learned years ago the art of splitting the teams – keep couples together, and put particularly competitive cousins on the same teams. My Uncle Steve is big on rotating who is QB, and loves the surprise plays to give everyone the feeling of getting a touch down. We then spend the next day complaining about how sore we are. It’s the best.

Here are some articles in the wellbeing space published this month. Check them out! Happy holidays!

The Psychologically Rich Life

Thought provoking read from Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener, researcher, author and pioneer in the application of positive psychology to coaching. Often in positive psychology we look at the good life being connected to eudaemonic and hedonic wellbeing. Dr. Biswas-Diener propose a third, “the rich life”. He writes, “the rich life differs from the happy life in that the activities are perspective-changing rather than just enjoyable.” I enjoyed this short read and typically pay attention when he shares his point of view.
